REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

 
chashama, Inc. is seeking a Harlem-based artist or group of artists to create murals on the pull-down gates at our two visual arts project studios at 159 W.119th Street. There are a total of three corrugated metal gates: two facing Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Boulevard and one facing West 119th Street. At least one of the gates should include the words "chashama" and "www.chashama.org". Artists who would like to be considered should submit the following:

  • A detailed description of the planned murals, including information about the theme and sample text (if applicable);
  • Color sketches of the planned mural; 
  • Photographs of a representative sample of the artists' previous works, especially mural work;
  • A bio and contact information for the artist or artists; and
  • A list of materials required to complete the mural.

Applications must be received in our office (not postmarked) by 5:00pm on Monday, February 5, 2007. chashama does not return application materials. Applicants will be notified by February 15th and painting will commence as soon as possible. The selected artist will receive a stipend of $300.00 and the materials will be paid for by chashama.
