Casting Notice for ReddMask Theater Company's inaugural production of
An Assembly of Quotable Gents
,  a new One-Act Play Festival
 

ReddMask Theater Company presents An Assembly of Quotable Gents, a festival of three original one-act plays celebrating the history of saloon life in NYC. Based on popular events or personas associated with a famous New York City bar, each play will be performed in a bar, and followed by a half hour of live music inspired by the play's time period.


Those Long Forgotten Hymns

Jackson Pollock never met a bar he didn't like, but one that always found a place in his heart, was the Cedar Tavern. Home to some of the country's most celebrated modern artists, the Cedar Tavern became a pantheon for the wild and dangerous displays that gave the tortured artist his reputation for living out of control.

The Folly Ball

January 1933, it is very late and cold outside. Officer Mike McPherson of the NYPD seeks after-hours warmth at Chumley's, the most literary speakeasy in Greenwich Village, but finds his equilibrium diminished by an unexpected visit from a notorious woman.

McGurk's Suicide Hall

In 1902, John McGurk had the infamous renown for owning a pub that became New York's premier haven for suicidal prostitutes. When an ambitious cleric walks in on McGurk's disposal of yet another unfortunate young woman, things get out of control and tensions between the classes become a catalyst for a thrilling Easter morning.
2 males 40s-60s – Irish brogue (one bar owner; one politician)
1 male 35-45 (conservative preacher)
1 male – 20's – Irish brogue
3 females – 20-35 (one prostitute – no lines; one prostitute – hard-edged; one preacher's wife – under the thumb of her husband)
Prepare one 90-second contemporary monologue.  Females should be prepared to sing a short lullaby of your choice, a capella.
