What is Art + Design in the Fashion District?
Art + Design in the Fashion District is the third annual Fashion Center Business Improvement District Arts Festival.  This festival was started in the fall of 2005 to bring exposure to artists and arts organizations living and working in the Fashion District.

How is chashama involved?
chashama was approached by the Fashion Center BID in 2006 to participate in last year's Arts Festival.  After brainstorming several ways to be involved, chashama decided to expand on the mission of its Windows Program, to put art in unexpected places in New York City.  chashama solicited landlords to allow us to transform their loading bays into installation and performance sites.  Loading bays create a natural proscenium, and their street-level location make them ideal locations for public art.  
    
How can I be involved?
This year, chashama will have up to nine (9) loading bays available for artists to transform into unexpected performance and installation spaces.  You could present a play, a dance piece, a sculptural installation, a puppet show, a photography exhibit – anything goes!  The only stipulation is that your work is family friendly. Timeline & Conditions:

• Artists will be granted a loading bay for the weekend of October 20th and 21st, with the obligation to present a visual art, performance or  multidisciplinary installation.  These installations will be on view to the public from 12PM – 6PM on October 20th and 21st.
• Artists will be awarded a $250 stipend.  
• Installations should be easy to install and deinstall.  Artists must be capable of installing, teching and de-installing their own projects!  Install will begin at 9AM on October 20th and deinstall will begin at 6PM on October 21st.  
• chashama and the Fashion Center BID will be responsible for creating and distributing materials to the press.

Deadline
Applications are due into chashama's offices by September 21st at 5PM.
Final decisions about participants will be made by October 2nd.

Required Application Materials:

• completed application form, downloadable from: http://www.chashama.org/downloads/cha.adfd07app.doc
• resume
• artist's statement
• 1-2 page project proposal
• 1 page technical requirements including description of installation/deinstallation plans
• work sample (CD/DVD of video or digital images, photographs; NO VHS)
• OPTIONAL: a drawing of how you plan to use the space; loading bays are usually no more than 10' wide  and 3-10' deep with 10' ceilings

Note:  chashama no longer returns submitted materials.
