12th annual OASIS festival at 217 East 42nd Street

Attention New York dancers, choreographers & dance troupes:

 

chashama is seeking innovative dance performance for our 42nd Street performance festival, OASIS.  OASIS is a 12 year-old annual festival of free performance which provides opportunities for established and emerging artists to showcase their work to audiences who might not otherwise be exposed to art in a casual setting in midtown. 

 

Each choreographer will be asked to present  three performances over the week of up to 20-minutes in our window storefront.  chashama will offer each group/individual artist a stipend and 1 hour of free rehearsal space at our performance venue at 217. Please see below for more information on the upcoming event.

 

The OASIS festival features 2 hours daily of up to 20-minute performances during weekday lunch hours and during the evening rush hour in the display window of our storefront performance venue at 217 East 42nd Street.  This summer, we are seeking to present the work of 15 dancers, choreographers and/or emerging companies.

 

Deadline: Friday, May 15th, 2008
Applications must arrive (not postmarked) at the chashama office by 5PM.

 

ABOUT 217 EAST 42ND STREET'S WINDOW STAGE
Stage Dimensions:
16' 6" deep, x 15' 6" wide (including a 2' 6" wing);
x 30" height (raised platforms on 2'x 4's);
22' ceiling; additional 1400 square feet with 8' ceilings
Window Dimensions: 13' 1" x 7' 9.5"

 

NOTE: Because performances take place in the window, this event plays simultaneously to the street and indoors. Because of the number of entries per program, the tech requirements must be kept to a minimum.
